Eric Alstrom Appointed GM Europe Vice President Purchasing and Supply Chain

Detroit -- 2005-10-05 -- Eric Alstrom has been appointed GM Europe Vice President of Purchasing and Supply Chain effective November 1, 2005. In this capacity, he will be responsible for overseeing GM’s purchasing activities in Europe.
Alstrom, 39, replaces Roger J. Johansson, who assumed the role of Vice President, GM Powertrain Europe on October 1. Alstrom will be based in Ruesselsheim, Germany, and will report to Bo Andersson, Vice President Global Purchasing and Supply Chain, and Fritz Henderson, Chairman GM Europe.

“Eric’s significant experience in purchasing and in working with suppliers will be of great value in his new role,” Andersson said.

Alstrom is currently the General Director, FHI Alliance, Japan. He joined General Motors in 1992 with Saab Automobile AB Purchasing in Trollhaettan, Sweden. In 1995, he moved to Adam Opel AG, Purchasing, in Ruesselsheim, Germany, and in 1999 he was appointed Executive Director, Electrical for Purchasing based in Warren, Michigan, U.S.A. In 2001, Alstrom attended Stanford University as a Sloan Fellow. Upon completion of his Sloan Fellowship he was named to the position of Director Automotive Strategy Board Support. In 2004, Alstrom assumed his current position.

Alstrom holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Gothenburg University, Sweden, and a Sloan Fellows Masters degree in Management from Stanford University in the United States. He is fluent in German, Swedish and English.
